Wretch Like Me: Momentum at Last

For a long season, the work behind Wretch Like Me has lived mostly in spreadsheets, paperwork, conference calls, and quiet persistence. It has not been flashy or visible, but it has been necessary. I’m grateful to finally share that this behind-the-scenes chapter has reached an important milestone. We are now in a place where financing for the feature film can officially move forward.
This step did not happen quickly or easily. It took the faithful effort of many people who believed in the project long before any cameras were rolling. I am especially thankful for our Co-Producer, Scott Maucere, whose dedication brought the complex financial and investor process together. Because of that work, the foundation is finally in place for us to take the next real steps toward production.
With that progress, our timeline has shifted, and our sights are now looking at filming next summer in Portland, Oregon. In the months ahead, the script will move through final revisions and into full storyboarding. From there we’ll begin pre-production planning, assembling departments, and diving deeper into special effects development as we prepare to bring the story to life.
One of the unexpected blessings along this journey has been how early generosity has carried far more impact than we imagined. Initial donations allowed us to purchase the camera and lenses that will shoot the feature film. Instead of waiting on a shelf for the movie to begin, that equipment has already been put to work across nearly every project we’ve created through Red Braille this year.
While the business side of the film has been moving forward quietly, creativity here has not slowed down. In fact, the energy surrounding this project has fueled some of the most joyful and prolific seasons we’ve experienced. Over the past year we’ve produced a wide range of content for Christ Greenfield Church and School, including teaching series, seasonal storytelling projects, student and family resources, promotional media, and large-scale initiatives designed to support ministry moments throughout the calendar. Each project has reminded us why we started Red Braille in the first place. The work is not just about making content. It is about creating tools that help the Gospel reach people in meaningful and accessible ways.
This focus has become a true creative distinction for Christ Greenfield. Across Lutheran churches nationwide and here in our local community, what sets this family of ministries apart is not scale or production value alone. It is heart. It is courage to tell stories with depth. It is a commitment to creativity that serves a greater purpose. Being able to contribute to that vision has been one of the great joys of our team.
We also completed our first narrative short film under the Red Braille banner during this season. That project was quietly designed to reflect the heart behind everything we do, a small story rooted in honesty, faith, and hope. It gave us a chance to exercise the same storytelling muscles we will use on Wretch Like Me while creating something deeply personal and spiritually meaningful. It reminded us that film can carry ministry in unique ways, sometimes speaking what sermons alone cannot.
Now, as we look ahead, the excitement is palpable. The long months of preparation are giving way to visible forward motion. Development is active. Creative planning is underway. And the prayers that have surrounded this project from the very beginning feel more present than ever.
Thank you to everyone who has supported, prayed for, encouraged, and believed in this journey. What God is building through Wretch Like Me, Red Braille, and the Christ Greenfield family continues to exceed what we could have planned on our own. We can’t wait to share what comes next.
